IL 6-Hour Core

The Illinois Real Estate License Act of 2000 sets the foundation for ethical and legal real estate practices in the state, and as a licensee, it's your responsibility to understand the regulations that guide agency relationships, brokerage agreements, advertising rules, escrow management, and fair housing compliance. This course will break down these critical topics in an engaging, practical way, helping you apply them to real-world transactions with confidence.

In these six hours, we'll navigate key laws and policies that impact your daily operations, ensuring you can confidently meet client needs while adhering to Illinois and federal regulations. From understanding your fiduciary duties to avoiding costly compliance mistakes in advertising and fair housing, this course is designed to keep you up to date and in control of your professional responsibilities. Let’s dive in and ensure you have the knowledge to protect your business, serve your clients effectively, and uphold the integrity of Illinois real estate!

This 6-hour course meets the “single core curriculum” continuing education requirement for brokers and managing brokers in Illinois which includes two hours of required fair housing training.

This course was designed to meet the REALTOR® Fair Housing Training Requirement. Please confirm that your local association, who administers the Fair Housing training, will accept this course.

Course highlights include:

  • An overview of the history behind and changes to the Real Estate License Act of 2000
  • A review of the act’s general requirements and what the law considers to be unprofessional conduct warranting disciplinary action
  • An in-depth review of agency law (including leasing agent law), agency relationships, and required disclosures
  • A review of the types of agency agreements allowed in Illinois, and the minimum services required of each
  • A review of the required property, environmental, and compensation- and business-related disclosures
  • An overview of escrow accounts, how escrow funds must be handled, and appropriate practices if funds are disputed
  • A review of advertising requirements for several types of media
  • A brief history of fair housing-related legislation and the protected classes at the federal, state, and local levels
  • A discussion of appropriate fair housing practices and avoiding discriminatory practices
  • An overview of filing fair housing complaints and enforcement

Illinois Sexual Harassment Prevention Training

This course provides 1 hour of instruction in sexual harassment prevention for professionals, including real estate, home inspection, appraisal, and beyond. Topics include specific sexual harassment prevention training in Illinois covering requirements and the Illinois Human Rights Act. The course also discusses federal and Illinois state law, what constitutes sexual harassment, and conduct constituting unlawful sexual harassment in Illinois. To wrap this course up, Illinois employer responsibilities, remedies for victims and state-level reporting in Illinois are all covered.

The state of Illinois requires any person who holds a professional license regulated by IDFPR that requires continued education to complete a one-hour course on sexual harassment prevention training each renewal period.

Using the Code to Solve Ethical Dilemmas

Illinois State Requirement Details for Real Estate Managing Broker Continuing Education

Renewal Date: April 30th of odd-numbered years

Hours Required by the State: 24 hours

  • 12-hour Broker Management CE course
  • 6-hour core course
  • 6 hours of elective courses including
    • 1-hour course in Sexual Harassment Prevention Training

Note: A managing broker renewing their license for the first time may use the 45-hour managing broker pre-license brokerage administration and management course to satisfy the 12-hour broker management CE requirement.  If the current term of the managing broker license ends within the 90 days after the initial managing broker license is issued, a licensee is not required to complete CE for that managing broker license term but shall complete all CE requirements before the next managing broker renewal deadline.
